Finding help
Here are the things you need to do - and many are ones I can help you with.
Seek help for the emotional issues that are sure to come up for both you and your grandchild
Find a way to balance your life so there is time for YOU
Make time to connect with your partner if you have one - and keep the lines of communication open
Try to keep up hobbies or activities you were involved in before you took on your new role
Make sure you have access to legal and financial advisers
Take a parenting course to update your skills
Join a grandparent support group - or start your own
As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, I have been helping clients with their emotional issues for many years and I
can help you too.
As a grandmother of two girls, and actively involved in their day-care, I am well aware of the amount
of energy it takes - although I can hand them back at the end of the day! But this role certainly gives me an
insight into some of the problems you may be encountering.
I also have access through my research, and through consulting with other professionals, to legal and
financial resources that will help you if necessary.
I can assist you in finding a grandparent support group - or in starting your own.
