Finding help

Here are the things you need to do - and many are ones I can help you with.

  • Seek help for the emotional issues that are sure to come up for both you and your grandchild

  • Find a way to balance your life so there is time for YOU

  • Make time to connect with your partner if you have one - and keep the lines of communication open

  • Try to keep up hobbies or activities you were involved in before you took on your new role

  • Make sure you have access to legal and financial advisers

  • Take a parenting course to update your skills

  • Join a grandparent support group - or start your own

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, I have been helping clients with their emotional issues for many years and I can help you too.

As a grandmother of two girls, and actively involved in their day-care, I am well aware of the amount of energy it takes - although I can hand them back at the end of the day! But this role certainly gives me an insight into some of the problems you may be encountering.

I also have access through my research, and through consulting with other professionals, to legal and financial resources that will help you if necessary.

I can assist you in finding a grandparent support group - or in starting your own.
